Eckhardt & Engler Catalog I
Eckhardt & Engler was founded as a wholesaling company by Peter
Eckhardt & Ernst Johann Engler in 1898 in the Westerwald village of Höhr. In 1907
they assumed marketing responsibility for Roßkopf & Gerz. In 1914 they purchased a
small company with a kiln and in 1918 they purchased several molds from Roßkopf & Gerz,
who had previously closed. Thus they transformed into a stein manufacturer employing
twelve pewter smiths and twelve painters. In addition to the Roßkopf & Gerz molds,
they purchased designs from some well known Jugendstil designers of the day, such as
Albin Müller, Leonhard Hellmuth, Karl Görig and Bruno Mauder, plus they generated
many other designs in-house. By 1923, Eckhardt & Engler purchased the balance of
the Roßkopf & Gerz molds. In the 1950s they in turn sold some of their molds to the
firm of Werner Corzelius.
The company continued in business until 1971.
