    Hello.

I am fairly new to stein collecting and need some help identifying a capacity mark. I have linked to the stein on ‘my Stein collection’ and I hope someone with more knowledge can see it and help out…

    Thank you!

      Roma,

I had the answer for the first photo. The capacity mark on the front of the stein is generally before 1890 according to a previous posting on http://www.mugmeister.com/index.htm. You might want to contact him to see if he knows the mark on the second photo.

Thanks, Ron. I recently joined SCI at the suggestion of a friend and was able to piece together the front capacity mark, but this oddly shaped one is a bit of challenge so far … thanks again for your reply.

Is it a correction? The first line (the bottom of the arrow) was found to be incorrect capacity and the 2 upper lines were added to show the full measure. The arrows indicate the true mark. I’ve seen x’s through an incorrect Stamped capacity line before and the new one in paint.
    Just a thought.

    RHoren,

Thanks … That makes sense and is a logical conclusion.

Being new to stein collecting, I thought it was the Bavarian mass mark before I bought it because the pictures were unclear …

    A correction is interesting…

Someone also suggested a maker’s mark but it’s oddly located for that.

A capacity mark on the back is also strange, isn’t it? Since the stein dates to about 1850/60?

    Anyway, thanks for responding.

    RS
