I am not sure if this is even closely related to a stein but it was found in a box with steins that belonged to my late grandfather. I think it is a wine cup of of some sort? The scene looks to be Greek or Italian. I am not sure what kind of ceramic art this is. Inside there was a note that reads “1865 Wallerfangen, Germany”. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Nicolle,

This is a Pokal, a ceremonial drinking vessel made of stoneware by Villeroy & Boch. While they had a factory at Wallerfangen, this one was made at their Mettlach factory. It is listed as Form 217 in The Mettlach Book by Gary Kirsner (2005). It is listed in Chapter 10 Early Wares. The book lists a market range of $150-350, that is out of date and prices have fallen. Furthermore, it looks like someone tried to make a repair to the lid which decreases its value.
