Hi I have a high wheeler or penny farthing stein currently for sale on eBay. I have been told it’s not original and maybe made from parts. Please have a look and let me know what you think?

What made the person think it was not original and made from parts? Was it because of the insert lid? Most people in the U.S. are accustomed to seeing the version made for the League of American Wheelers (L.A.W.), mold 50, which has an insert on the lid showing a shield with their symbol. The front of the stein also has their initials, L.A.W., rather than All Heil!, which means All’s well. The hangover cat should be mold 49, not 43. It looks OK to me in the photos. Any repairs or damage?

No the stein is not damaged or repaired in anyway that I can see. The person who doubted its authenticity showed no interest in buying it and had some reasons for the doubt but they were all unfounded.

What were the reasons he gave?

They probably have never seen the cat inlay version…I’ve never seen one for sale as far as I can remember. I put your stein in my eBay watch list when it first appeared as I am curious to see how much this rare version will fetch. The American and German versions with the standard inlay are common but the cat and litho make yours unique.

He said the colours on the cat lid do not match the body of the jug but they do perfectly and also that the cat was too heavy and the stein would fall over with the lid open if it was empty but it doesn’t.

Let the outcome of the auction decide how “authentic”it is. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what it realizes. For some reason, people feel the need to try to “educate” and correct sellers. I really don’t see the purpose. It looks fine to me.
