Hello. I saw a beer stein for sale. I can not understand who made this beer stein? What does the date 1891 mean? Is it the date of manufacture? Tell me please

    Dmytro,

This is an Austrian Uhlanen Regiment. Normally, reservist steins listed their service time, two or three years. This reservist listed only one year, maybe the year he went in or the year he completed his service. K.u.K. stands for kaiserlich und k├Ânigliche Army.

Thanks for the answer. How old is this beer stein? 1891 is the production year of the mug?
The seller wants for her $ 100. Is this an adequate price?

      Dmytro,

There is no way to tell when the stein was made. It was a blank stein personalized for the owner. It may have been personalized in 1891 or maybe some time after his service was over. Unlike the German reservist steins, this does not indicate the actual regiment, provide a list of fellow reservists, show scenes performing their duties or list his service dates. It does have his photo though. You are the one that will have to decide what a fair price is.

Thank. However, it can be argued that this is the original stein, not a replica?

This is definitely an original, not a reproduction. It is quite nice, and based on the decoration, there would be little reason to reproduce such a stein. I noticed that the lithophane seems to have a hairline which can be bleached to remove the accumulated dirt. That damage is a bargaining chip in your favor, if you don’t object to it.
