Recently acquired this wooden tankard and was wondering if I could learn something about it. It is beautifully made and decorated.would like to know the country of origin and its age.

    Paul,
Wooden steins are generally Scandinavian in origin. Steveonsteins.com has several articles on wooden steins. The Oct 2002 and May 2000 Featured steins were wooden. You can access these sites at the Reading Room.

Paul, agree that this is likely Norwegian in origin. It might be commemorating a marriage with bride and groom in traditional dress. I have a similar smaller vividly painted tankard with bride in traditional dress on a horse being led in a marriage prosession. It is marked Norway. I would guess this dates from around 1900.
