This trade association was formed during the Jugendstil era with the aim of fostering "good designs" in all manner of products. In effect, they passed judgment on a design, and if it was approved, they authorized the use of the DB/WB-G mark, kind of like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval in the US. They did not manufacture anything, but they did operate retail outlets where these items could be purchased. At least, that was the plan. It was never fully implemented, as the war interfered. To the best of my knowledge, Reinhold Merkelbach is the only ceramics firm to have been granted approval to use this mark, and with that understanding, it can be used as an identifier, although their steins are usually well marked. It's my understanding that the mark may be found on furniture, and possibly metalware.
