Out here in earthquake country I use earthquake putty to secure all my steins to their shelves. I also use the putty to keep all my lids closed by putting a small amount on the front of rim, enough to contact the lid, and press closed. I can't tell you how many times it has saved me or someone else from flopping that lid back, especially if a little loose or old and fragile stein. Hope it helps!
