David, We are talking about two different series here. The first was The Tales of the Brothers Grimm. I have the brochures for three of the steins in this series in 1980 Each stein featured three fairy tales. The first had Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Little Red Riding Hood and The Frog Prince. The second had The Bremen Town Musicians, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. The final one had The Golden Goose, The Shoe Maker & the Elves and Cinderella. There were supposed to be four in the series, but I only have three of the brochures. The scenes were designed by Karin Blume and the steins were offered exclusively through American Express in a limited edition of 10,000. The brochure does not state the offering price, but I seem to recall a figure of $275. The next series of four steins was The Mettlach Fairytale Stein Collection. Each stein was one fairy tale scene - Peter Pan, Hansel & Gretel, Pinocchio and The Pied Piper. The designer was Renée Faure and the steins were offered exclusively through American Express in a limited edition of 10,000. The issue price was $195 per stein. The brochure does not show a date and the bottom of the stein does not indicate the issue date. The steins are, however, numbered by hand from 1 to 10,000. Perhaps your Hanzel & Gretel stein was number 1981 and perhaps the third series in the first series included one with Hanzel & Gretel issued in 1980. Ron
