David, The initials KB are the only initials that have been identified with a particular designer. The Beer Stein Library has information and a catalog for Girmscheid. Form 3 is an Alpine Woman with a ceramic lid featuring a gnome sitting on a keg of beer with an HB mug and is not identified as having any initials on the stein. Several other initials appear on other Girmscheid steins (GK, AD, AS & TW), but none have been identified with a particular designer. The Beer Stein Library also shows KB initials appearing on D&B and Thewalt. The book on Rosskopf & Gerz claims that KB worked for that firm. Prosit also carries articles about Girmscheid, including the current issue discussing whether an unidentified mark belongs to Girmscheid. If you are really interested in collecting steins, and it seems you are, you should consider joining SCI and The Beer Stein Library. You will be surprised at the amount of information that will be available to you. At one time all twisted vine handles were thought to be Girmscheid. It has been shown that other firms also featured that type of handle. Just do a search on "twisted vine handles," to see the article. Ron
