I found a listing which included photos of your humidor. http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/german-germany-pipe-tobacco-humidor-jar One sold recently on an ebay for only $9.99. The writing may not be Bavarian but some old Low German or Dutch. I think it means "the true history of Suzanna ??? engraved 1584" or something similar. Biblical engravings were popular on early steins etc and then were reproduced later by Gerz et al.
