When Customers bought a beerstein, many times without a lid. In the 19th century and earlier all Cities and towns had Pewterers which put on lids for customers to there liking. In my aera Nürnberg/Fürth there were 100s in the 19th century, you could find many the same steins with diffrent lids.G&G
