Nick, Did you read my article on Thewalt on the Library section of this site? Wilhelm Anton Kamp designed the first 816 steins for Thewalt from 1897 to 1914. That is roughly 48 per year, which would date the mold from about 1907. It was most likely made prior to WWI. The artists that did the painting had some leeway is using colors, thus accounting for your red coat. This is true for most manufacturers. The same goes for the inserts, sometimes the gnome has a brown robe, sometimes a red robe. In mint condition, the stein has a market range of $150 to $225 Per The Beer Stein Library. The text per that site is: “Feierabend” (lid) (Closing time) “Trink was klar ist, sprich was wahr ist.” (body) (Drink what is clear, speak what is true.) Ron
