Over the years I have purchased various steins and other items from Germany and Europe. I have never had custom charges on these items. On a recent stein purchase from Europe I had customs in Jersey City open the box and charge me 10% duty and handling fees. That same day I had a second purchase from Germany from second vendor with no such surcharge. My mailman said the charge was for a "randam" inspection that Customs performed and in his experience this was rare. He didn't even know who I was to make check out to as this had never occurred in past on his route. What are other's experiences?
