Hello, I have a beer stein that my grandfather got when he was stationed in Germany. My dad says it was about 1946 or so and they were in Munich for a short time and then in Kaufbeuren. I am not sure where he got the beer stein, but he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and his German driver was always getting him things off of the black market. My Grandfather told stories about having his driver return a few of the items because of their questionable nature. I don't think the stein is a collector's item, but it is now a family heirloom and I would like to have as much info on it as possible. It's a 1 liter stein and has a raised 'carving?' on the front of a woman and a man. The man seems to be welcoming the woman (he is holding a cane and has arms open to her). The woman seems to be handing him a tureen of soup? I am wondering if they are wearing Bavarian style dress? I think it is a stoneware stein and has a wooden looking raised carved handle with edelweiss (I think) carved into it. It has an eagle thumb hold and the top seems to be pewter and is conical shaped with a finial on top. It is a decorated top and has some writing engraved on the outer lip. The only mark I can find on the body is 2015 which I believe is the mold number? I can't find anything on the inside of the stein. The bottom of the stein has 2015 on it and 13 (I assume for the year 1913 because the engraving says 1913 on the lid)? It also has the number 4 or a small h and it says: GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT (u has two dots over it) which I had read is a patent or something. I hope I am not overdoing the description. I have a bunch of pics I took too and am going to see if I can link them to this post.
