Vicky, Your stein was made by the Westerwald firm of Marzi & Remy. The material is what is typically referred to as cream (or ivory) stoneware. The clothing is indeed turn of the century Bavarian. The text on the stein translates to: Love the beautiful girls, don’t make young women sad, and don’t hate the old ones, and let live what lives. The text on the lid isn't clear enough to read, but certainly dates the stein to pre-WWI. The thumblift is a dragon, as opposed to an eagle. Hope that helps. Assuming you have no objections, I'd like to use some of your photos to list the stein in the BSL's online M&R catalog for future researchers with similar questions. - Frank
