Ernest, I'm sorry to say, that although it is a nice stein, it's not a Mellach. It's a Marzi & Remy made in about the same period. It's value in mint condition is only about $250 with the way prices have been running. Personally, I'd leave the inlaid lid rather than replace with pewter, but this is simply my personal esthetics. Also you already have $80 into this piece. Spending another $75 on a good lid will still not bring it up to mint. If you still want, David Harr does good pewterwork. Check under links.
