Here is the explanation from Lyn Ayres: "Reetmachte means to us “scratched design”. Another term is geritze. It is similar (or maybe identical) to incised, although I have the impression it is earlier and usually refers to hand done, and not embedded in a mold. I have seen it used on stoneware steins from the mid-1800s".
