Photos 18 – 22 are also of a Mettlach – a 1.0 liter etched stein also designed by F. Quidenus. It was available in a .5 liter version as well and is the first in a series of three steins (the other steins were mold number 3143 & 3144). The Beer Stein Library provides a translation of the saying as – “And as merry as we are, you will find it in no book, because our feet are hopping all by themselves in the shoes” and estimates the value between $650 - $800. Kirsner estimates the value of this stein at about $850. Photos 25 & 26 - here is a link that will give you a little more info about the St. Louis Silver Co. http://www.steinmarks.co.uk/pages/pv.asp?p=stein336 Photos 27, 28 & 29 – appear to be of a Merkelbach & Wick 3 liter, etched stein, unfortunately image 29 is not sharp enough for me to confirm the manufacturer’s mark. To confirm if this is in fact Merkelbach & Wick, follow this link http://www.steinmarks.co.uk/pages/pv.asp?p=stein336 where you can find additional information about this manufacturer. A word of caution about the estimated values – the stein needs to be in mint condition even a small defect could impact the value significantly. Additionally, these estimates are generally based on auction prices were commissions etc must be paid. The bottom line, they should be used as a guide to potential value and not as an absolute. I hope you find this information of value. I would also like to encourage you to consider joining Stein Collector’s International where you can learn more about the hobby of collecting beer steins. - Walter
