Vicki, The name of the company is one word, Thewalt. It had a long history, being founded in 1893, but it recently closed its doors. Some of the molds are being produced by another manufacturer. Original Thewalt indicates this was a reproduction based on one of the older molds. The fact it says West Germany dates it from 1949-1989, but these type of steins were made closer to 1970-1989. The stein is not listed in the Thewalt catalog at The Beer Stein Catalog. Some retailers still carry Thewalt steins, but they do not list the mold numbers (1406 refers to the original mold). You can search eBay for Thewalt steins to get an idea of value, but the newer steins are not sought by collectors and do not carry a high value. For more information on Thewalt, see my article in the Library section of this site. Ron
