Peter, If you view some of the other Girmscheid steins in The Beer Stein Library you will see various background colors, usually cobalt blue, green and reddish-brown. The decorators had some liberties in choosing individual colors for the objects on the stein. This is generally true for all stein makers as you will find color variations for most of the steins. Also, these molds were used over a long period and as tastes and decorators changed, so did the look of the stein. Ron
