Ken, Since you didn't provide a photo, it is hard to give you advise on how to touch up your stein. If properly done, it will enhance your stein for viewing, but you will never repair your stein to mint value. You have to be the judge as to whether or not it is worth repairing. Your blacksmith was probably in the 3rd Eskadron (Esk., Eska.) or squadron. A squadron was the smallest cavalry unit and consisted of 180 men of which 150 were mounted, although there would have been 180 horses. The other 30 men would be support and would have included blacksmiths (I don't know how many were needed for 180 horses, but suspect more than one). There were five squadrons in a regiment, two regiments in a brigade and one or two brigades to a division. It is common for early regimentals (1900 and prior) to not include a list of the reservists or to have the fancy finials. I am surprised a regiment or brigade is not listed. Does it show where the unit was billeted? Maybe you will get more answers if you can post a photo. Ron
