Paul, Sorry, but these are not Mettlach steins. Mettlach made stoneware steins, these are pottery or ceramic steins. Your steins are in relief and are what is considered souvenir type. That means they were mass produced for the retail trade. Relief type steins are generally not as popular with collectors and this is reflected in their low values. The small stein looks like it was designed for a music box, the uneven surface on the bottom was to allow the sound to come through If it doesn't have a music box, it may have three holes on the inside of the bottom to hold a music box. I don't know who made it as you don't show a mark on the bottom. The lid became separated at one time and someone did a poor job of repairing it. There is little monetary value for this stein, although it may have some sentimental value to you. The second stein is a 2,0 L stein made by Marzi & Remy of a Tyrolean couple. The Beer Stein Library lists the value at $50 to $70 in mint condition. Your lid has a dent by the finial which will reduce the value. The Gernan saying is “Sing und trink sei fröhlich auf Erd denk nur nicht das es besser werd.” (Sing and drink be happy on Earth and don’t think that it will become better.) Ron
