I have a HB 1 lt salt glazed beer stein (same as pictured in this link (http://www.mugmeister.com/set7.jpg It was given to me by my father-in-law, who swiped it from the Hofbrau Haus 8/1939. In a letter he writes: "I couldn't resist (as a brave new ROTC 2nd Lt of U.S. Army)risking or challenging the Nazi Gestapo guards at the exit by fingering the mug under my coat and dragging it past the guards while saying, "Heil Hitler." He was a verteran of WWII and Korea, achieving rank of general. My question is what is the approximate value of the mug itself and does its documented provenance add to its value? I have absolutely no interest in selling this mug. Thanks for any info. you can provide.
