Jordan, Yes, that is my featured stein article. The crown remained part of the HB logo after the overthrow of the monarchy after WWI. Walter's book does show an HB with crown um 1870. He doesn't show any steins or mugs prior to 1870. Rather than carved, the logo is considered etched or incised as it was part of the mold. It is hard to tell from the photos which are etched and which are painted. Kgl is generally prior to WWI and Stl is after WWI. The older steins, prior to 1900, generally have the capacity mark in the front. This is about the extent of my knowledge of the HB steins. Did you see the article I found on beer markers from circa 1900? What kind of prices are you seeing for the book and what are you looking for pricewise? You still didn't say if you joined SCI yet. I think you would really enjoy it. Ron
