Gerz est. 1862 and Hanke est. 1868, were two of the earliest factories in the Westerwald to use capacity marks and they started with the 0,5L mark and only later began to use the 1/2L mark. However, to find a 1/2 L mark on a Gerz stein is next to impossible it was used so rarely. Regensburg, Freising and MWG never used 0,5L mark only the 1/2 L. Most other factories used a mix over the years and what determined which mark they used and why, is still a mystery. 10/20 I see on some early glass steins but only on more recent stoneware pieces.
