R. Merkelbach 1741 was produced in both half-liter and one-liter sizes, and in a variety of different designs. Some of the designs, like the first of these two steins, are incised or stamped into the side of the body. These designs are abstract in nature, and I suspect that they were designed by Riemerschmid, as well as the body and lid. A number of the steins were produced without factory decoration, and were decorated by finishing shops, as was the second of these steins. They are occasionally found with student coats of arms, or even with regimental decoration. Like this design of the Heidelberg Schloss, Riemerschmid had nothing to do with that portion of the design.
