Well, you could list it on Ebay (listing fee-no commission, but you would probably get 450 to 500 range). It could also be consigned to an auction house (commission about 15% to 18%). There is also a spot on this web site for buying and selling (look at the top of the home page). Or, you might just sell it to a local antique dealer in your area (expect less because they are going to be sure to make a profit). If you decide to use Ebay; be sure to list it as a Mettlach 2872, provide ample photos, indicate it's condition, and provide all of the markings located on the base (bottom). This was a special order stein made for Rothchild Bros. of Ithaca, N.Y. and is probably dated around 1908 (year will be marked on the base as one of two numbers with two digits). It is one of three steins made for Cornell University. The other two are a graduate 1L stein # 2871 (value 700 to 900) and a Book Stein 1/2L # 2001R (value 4500 to 5500).
