Dave - that you should have, drink a few beers. If memory serves me right, the person who was fabricating these steins got themselves into big trouble with the postal authorities for mail fraud. The person who was making them had a kiln and was cranking them out as originals to the person named on the stein, the bodies were all the same, the badges he applied to the steins were different - along the way he 'tripped' up and was nailed (something like the date on the stein & the individual on the stein being dead). He advertised in the 'Shotgun News,' going after militaria collectors as his 'targets' - and quite a few were fooled into believing they had purchased the genuine article, which later to their dismay - found out that they had traded off something valuable for something worthless. The ad use to read something like this, genuine 3rd Reich stein available named to 'blab, blab, blab' - will trade for guns, steins, helmets, etc or will sell outright for 'X' number of dollars. You saw them quite often at the gun shows for sale by militaria dealers.
