Today, I purchased a drinking vessel (stein?) in which both the stein body and lid are carved out of a tree root (many hair root nubs, etc). It appears that the stein was made in the time arts and crafts period of 1880-1920 based upon the appearance and hand hammered metal strap, etc. It appears the stein may be from Scandinavia or Germany.

Can you provide me any guidance on references or website from which I can obtain more information on this stein and how to best preserve the wood, etc.

Thank you!

John
