Hi there! I have 4 different steins and I know nothing about steins; I was wondering if anyone can help me to identify these 4.(2 on tonight and 2 more tomorrow) The first one is a Salt Glaze done in a grayish blue with cobalt inside the embossed design. The pottery itself on the bottom looks like a light brown reddish clay color. The words read " him die bemahlin ftets wit Dir, Wendu abends gehitzum Bier." and Die Trinkr Ncktar dan wie ei ue Biene Und du Dredigl der Gar diue" I think, my son tried to translate it for me but only has 2 years of Northern German class; (it didn't help him out too much while in the southern part this spring!) anyway the center has a lovely setting of a man and woman sitting on a bench and they are holding hands as he gazes at her and she has a rose in the hand that is nearest to him - it looks like both his hands are on her one hand and he has an instrument in his lap that looks like it may be a mandoline. the thumblift is pretty and in the shape of a tri-leafed plant or something like that. The handle looks to be applied like mud as you can see the thumb print of someone where they forgot to smooth it. The bottom is double stamped GERMANY and it looks like a 17 incised on the other side. The stein is about 6" tall with the lid down it is about 8" tall. There are two dent type marks by the thumblift on the base of the lid. the liter mark is 12L underlined and incised.

The 2nd is a cute foxy stein I just love this one! It is about 7½" tall and with the lid down it is about 10" tall It is marked on the base 978 Germany but only I can see the NY deeply and I think the begining part is the GERMA it also has the number 2 painted in red and also it looks like a loop (almost a cursive S) is incised lightly there but I may be wrong. The handle is made to look like a tree limb and applied quiet nicely if it is applied, next to the bse of the handle and just to the left is 978 the liter mark is 0.5. there are 3 adorable little fox heads protruding from around the base. and topped with X's between the 3 trees. The center finds a lading in a orangey (same color as foxes) skirt with blue apron, brown apron ties, black shoes, white socks, black blouse with one white sleeve and one blue sleeve, waist over the table with her arms crossed hands under her right cheek and gazing in the woods. Colors are muted except for the base which has an almost lustre ware finish. Very pretty castle scene and town scene on either side of the lady. Any information on these would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time. Cathy
