I have a 1L stein Produced by Merkelbach & Wick (manufacturers mark on base) without a mold number. It was finished by LB&C (LBCM on shank). There is an over glaze handpainted portrait of a seated man smoking a pipe and holding a stein (either pewter or silver). Under the portrait is "Sfillvergniegf" (not totally sure of the spelling). My question; does this mean "silversmith"? If so, wouldn't it then place it in the category of an occupational stein?
