Hi Alison, Can't be 100% sure without pictures, but your stein sounds like a souvenier stein from Munich. The guy sitting on the barrel is typically Gambrinus, the god of beer. The other images are probably just references to the Hofbreau Haus in Munich. Your father probably purchased this stein new. West/Western Germany was the period from October 1949-October 1990 so your stein was made sometime during that period. The mark you describe sounds like Albert Jacob Thewalt. Your stein, like all steins made post WWll is considered Modern/Contemporary. The value of your stein is it's connection to your father. Monetary value is small......$10-$20. Dick
