Hello, I picked up two fairly nice quality steins at a church rummage sale this weekend. I'm definitely no expert on steins as art pottery is more my area but I rarely pass up pieces that I think are quality pieces. I cannot find any identifying marks on any of these. If anyone has an idea of the maker of either of these or a good place for me to start looking, I'd very much appreciate it. #1: Stein 1 - http://www.grantpimpler.com/Steins/Stein01.jpg Salt Glaze Stoneware Stein with Pewter lid and hinge. Decoration is in relief of hunters and pray, foliage, etc. I found a very similar stein in: "The Stein Book" by Gary Kirsner and Jim Gruhl (pg. 191) from 1985 if any of you have that one but it doesn't have a porcelain inlaid lid. There is a stamp on the lid that reads "Reichszinn M&R" and some engraving on the lid that has 4 - E's laid out sort of in a cross shape (all inverted around each other) and what looks to be a name and some other letters engraved on the lid. Approx. 2 lbs. #2: Stein 2 - http://www.grantpimpler.com/Steins/Stein02.jpg The only mark I could find on this one was the number 1457 in a serif font marking on also the .5L marking on the mug. No obvious maker's mark anywhere. The glaze is really nice and it has a lot of embossed scrolls and "reed"-like decorations embossed in it. It is fairly heavy/thick stoneware material and weighs almost 2lbs. Thanks for any help you can provide. Even if they aren't worth much...I like them and will probably keep them.
