Bill, The same stein in the 1/2 L version, #131 sold in the Andre Ammelounx auction (lot 28) at the Indianapolis convention in 2003. It was listed in the $250 to $350 range in mint condition. I was interested in it, but I also knew the same item would be closing on eBay the next day. I watched the bidding and when it approached the upper limit, I figured I could get a better buy on eBay with so many stein collectors at the convention. The stein sold for $373.75, including Andre's buyer's premium of 15%. I confidently went to my hotel room, knowing the upper limit to my bid should ensure me of a lower price on eBay, to check the eBay bidding and to my dismay saw that it was now higher than the price just obtained in the convention auction. It went even higher at the close. If I can find my copy of the eBay close, I will post it for you. Obviously, I had forgotten about all the Palmer Cox fans that were not at the convention. Apparently there are more of them with more money than us poor stein collectors! What is that pearl of wisdom that antique dealers keep telling you, the time to buy an antique is when you see it! Ron
