You are absolutely correct that if someone does not accept credit cards, you lose that form of protection for a purchase gone sour. However, from the sellers point of view, if he does accept credit cards, he has to pay for an upgraded class of PayPal membership, and has to pay a (small) percentage of each credit card transaction. When you realize that ebay owns PayPal, it is understandable that some sellers will resent paying additional amounts to ebay. I have bought from many sellers who do not offer PayPal, and have only very infrequently been disappointed. What that means to me is the PayPal is not the discriminator between reliable sellers and bad actors, their feedback is important, as is the veracity of their descriptions. Also, I give extra credit to anyone who offers to take returns. That's generally a seller who wants to do the right thing.
