Hello. I recently picked up a 1914-dated German military stein and I'd very much appreciate it if anyone could tell me something about it including what it might be worth. The color of the stein is an off-white and a cobalt blue background and also some green coloration on the ground where the soldiers are standing. Around the top of the stein is the inscription: WIR DEUTSCHEN FURCHTEN GOTT U. SONST NICHTS AUF DER WELT. Below that is the main body of the stein which includes raised reliefs of four standing soldiers tipping their "hats" (pickelhaubes) with a shout of "Sieg!". They are standing next to a large cannon with "42 cm" on its barrel with a shell lying next to it. There is also an additional scene of a machine gun crew consisting of two crouching crewmen and one officer standing beside them. Below these scenes is the incription: ZUM ANDENKEN AN DIE DEUTSCHEN WAFFENTATEN 1914. Around the base of the stein is a draped bunting design with stacked cannonballs. The bunting forms individual spaces and in these are the names of battles fought in Belgium and France: LONGWY, NAMUR, ANTWERPEN, LUTTICH, MAUBEUGE. The handle is of an oak leaf pattern. It has a hole at the top that I presume would be used for attaching a lid, but it is either missing or never had one. There are no marks or scoring to indicate that it ever had a lid. Near the handle it is marked 1/2 L though this is hard to see as it is black on blue (see photo). The stein has no maker's mark that I could find, but the bottom is marked with the number 2398 and below that a 99. The stein is undamaged with the exception of two small chips, one at the rim and one along the edge of the base. You can see both of them in one or more of the photographs. Here is the link to the web page I created for viewing photos of the stein. http://userweb.intergrafix.net/sps3936/stein.html Thank you in advance for any help and information you may be able to provide to me regarding this stein.
