As Ron states, R. Wagner was a firm operating in the city of Mettlach, an their name can be found on both pewter fittings and on pressed glass steins, as you note. To the best of my knowledge, the firm does not enjoy any special following among collectors, other than those noting the oddity of the word "Mettlach" appearing on a glass stein. The inlaid lid is apparently dedicated to a 4F practitioner. This fitness movement, begun as a tactic to resist the threat of Napoleon in the early 1800's, became very popular and a large number of clubs were formed. You can read about the history of this movement and the steins that resulted in the Library area of this site.
