Both are considered "Black" handles. This was an easy way for collectors to identify unmarked Marzi-Remy steins. There is no added collector value because of this feature. As a matter of fact Gerz also produced steins with a plack top like this and I'm sure many collectors have Gerz pieces they think are Marzi-Remy.
