Mettlach 1934 depicts military uniforms from 1689 until 1889. There were two different inlays for the stein lid. The first one most often seen is a relief of the Prussian eagle. The second alternative inlay has a central image showing and entwined “FR” and crown, for “Friedrich Rex,” referring to King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia, who ruled from 1713 to 1740 and has the Latin phrase “Non soli credit” on it with "Errichtet 1689". Now a third inlay has surfaced with the same entwined "FR" and crown but the Latin phrase is replaced with "Zur Erinnerung An Die 200 Jahrige Jubelfeier 1689-1889". Can anyone tell me what event or happening occured in 1689 that this stein commerates? I haven't been able to find the event with limited research. Thanks for any help that might be provided.
