Hi Karen, Your Thewalt stein (Albert Jacob Thewalt) was made sometime between 1949-1990, the period of West/Western Germany. It's impossible to date it any closer without pictures of the bottom marks. Generally, steins made post WWll, like yours, were/are mass produced for the tourist/decorator market and generally command only modest prices. You didn't mention how much they are asking for the stein, but Thewalt prices are generally in the $20-$30 range on ebay. All steins made post WWll are considered Modern/Contemporary. Dick
