I think that the members' average age is a valid indicator of potential future problems. The fact that the majority of SCI members collect antique steins, while younger collectors tend to buy contemporary steins (Budweiser, for example) may explain why there is a perception of SCI being for the older collector. However, attracting the young collector is not something that need be left to the club's leadership. It is up to the local chapters to make sure their meetings are family friendly. To welcome, at meetings, the sons and daughters of members and make them feel a part of the meeting, not an observer who is better seen than heard. We need to encourage members to bring friends and relatives who may have a developing interest in steins. Our local chapter meetings should be both informative and fun, not lessons in Parliamentary Proceedures, nor intimidating to the novice. We have been seeing more articles appearing in Prosit about contemporary steins, but I'm not sure that enough collectors of contemporary steins are seeing the articles. The local chapter is the front line in attracting new and younger members and should go out of the way to do so. --------- Jerry
