Hi Matt, I agree, this one is an original/antique. The best way to learn about the details regarding antique steins is to either utilize the information on this website - or there are also books - 'The Beer Stein Book' is an excellent reference for many categories of antique steins - including regimentals - and won't break your pocketbook (it's readily avaiable on ebay all the time through various auctions). That book is what helped me get started on antique steins. I've been collecting steins for 19 years now (antique steins for 12 years), and when I 'progressed' to antique steins, I had a learning curve to go through (like you are going through). The best thing is reading, looking, etc. Sure, I've made some mistakes over the years on some steins, but that's all part of the learning process. Some dead giveaways for fake regimental steins are: 1) Nude girlie lithophanes in the bottom of the stein. 2) A bump in the handle of the stein. There are other details as well, but they are more difficult to spot, and require some knowledge (reading/viewing/seeing) of the various steins. I hope this helps you - and good luck with your future stein hunting! Prosit! John S.
