Hello David, I should have noted in my original post that I did research this before I posted the question (which is why I posted the question, because I couldn't find the reason - and - so many collectors were bidding on it that obviosly know something about it that I don't). I do have the book you noted as well (in addition to The Beer Stein Book and many others). I get all the auction catalogs as well from the major stein auction companies, and have been collecting for a long time - however, learning is a never ending process, and I would like to learn why this was so valuable (more so than what I thought it would go for).
