Hi Art - I noticed the same thing just a few hours after they listed this stein on ebay - and sent the seller an email about it. Of course, they didn't want to hear it, and said the original owner said "that's the way it came". Notice she didn't attach my note/email to her listing either. (she did post another note, but it does not mention the screw off portion of the lid). I'll try again to convince her to note it. John S.
