I am admittedly at ease with a computer, but that aside, I can't understand why "collector software" would be more useful than a simple spreadsheet. In my case, and I suspect in most others as well, it is more difficult to discipline myself to record all the information about a new acquisition - and to remove the data if I dispose of an item - than it is to deal with the software used to keep the record. Most Windows computers include Microsoft Excel, and once you figure out what information you want to keep track of, it is very easy to enter a new line for each piece. What you don't get is the ability to make a fancy formatted printout for each piece, but who does that anyway?
