John, fair enough. I already thought about the role-reversal scenario, and yes, I guess I'd pay the low price if it came up, though honestly I often don't know value of many items either until I get home and look this up. The justification in my mind is that if a dealer puts a too-low or too-high price on an item, he or she did not attempt any research (just tapping "stein" into Google to find SCI, Beer Stein Library, Gary Kirsner Auction, or even ebay prices) and knows the inappropriate pricing is a risk whenever knowledge is lacking. By the way, price aside, I do often feel comfortable letting people know the true manufacturer of an item, or the meaning of certain symbols, or the translation of the German, if I know it - as I assume they want to know this - this may help a future sale!
