Mike, you have a relatively early regimental beer stein dated 1896-1898, originally owned by a young recruit named Gardist Schliezer. The unit designation indicates he served with the Body Guard Infantry Regiment (1st Grand Ducal Hessian) No. 115, which was garrisoned at Darmstadt. This regiment was raised in 1621, making it what I believe to be, at that time, the earliest continually serving infantry regiment in the German Army. Regardless, steins named to this regiment are fairly common. With the extensive fading and major hairline in the lithophane, the condition of this stein must be graded poor. I would value this stein in the area of $150 to $200.
