As for the service years, I would suggest that the seller has misread the date which would probably be 1910 as 1916. It is possible that the date has been smeared or touched up. Some steins were made up for vets after the war with wartime dates, but there would be no roster. The years may be indicated on the back above the roster as well as on the front of the stein if you want to query the seller more about the dates. But I weould be more concerned about the condition of the stein. If possible, get a pic of the stein looking down with the lid open so that you can see the condition of the top rim, the hinge rings and where the shank attaches to the lid.
