Matt, The end of WWI is the rough cutoff for dating Hofbrauhaus steins because that is when the kingdom ended. I say rough, because some old stiens and lids were still carried in inventory. Prior to the end of WWI the initials KGL appear before Hofbrauhaus (usually on the lid) and after the end of WWI the initials Stattl or STL appear before Hofbrauhaus. KGL or königlich means royal. while STAATL or staatlich means state-owned. Ron
